Topical Excel V+ Laser Therapy

Ponosh Vascular is the only specialist vascular and vein practice in Perth to offer the class-leading Excel V+ topical laser system. It is amazing!

What conditions does Excel V+ treat?

Excel V+  has been shown effective at treating a number of conditions, including:

  • Telangiectasias (broken blood vessels)
  • Spider Veins
  • Leg veins
  • Port wine stains
  • Cherry angiomas
  • Benign pigmented (brown) skin lesions
  • Rosacea
  • Pigmentation

Excel V+ treats mild and severe forms of these conditions. The system may also have a cosmetic benefit for patients who have skin lesions or scars from past injuries or surgeries.

The system also can treat a number of cosmetic issues such as facial rejuvenation and dermal revitalisation.

How does Excel V+ work?

Excel V+, developed by Cutera, is a new laser system providing treatment for a variety of vascular skin conditions. Many skin conditions manifest in the form of broken or abnormal blood vessels in the skin. Excel V+ treats these conditions by administering a unique high power green laser that is absorbed by the abnormal blood vessels in the skin.  The laser heats the abnormal vessels until they are removed.  At the end of treatment, the patient’s natural skin tone and color are restored.

How is the procedure performed?

After an initial consultation with the patient, the Mr Ponosh determines if treatment with the Excel V+ is appropriate for you. Unlike other procedures, injections or topical anaesthesia are not required throughout the duration of the 15 – 30 minute procedure.  Depending on the condition, Mr Ponosh or his trained team, places the Excel V+ hand piece over the affected areas of the skin until the abnormal vessels diminish. To minimize discomfort  and protect the patient’s skin,  the Excel V+ uses a proprietary cooling mechanism. It often is pain free but in some cases can feel like a flick or a gentle pinch. Special glasses are worn during the procedure. It is a walk-in and out procedure without the need for stockings.

How many treatments are needed?

The number of sessions depends on various parameters, including the size, thickness and color of the vascular lesion. Superficial vascular lesions such as small telangiectasia and diffused redness are easiest to treat; some patients might see significant improvement after just one treatment. We see a 70-90 % reduction in 2-3 sessions in the majority of spider veins patients.

Are there risks associated with the treatment?

Topical laser therapy is a very safe and low risk procedure. The commonest results can be some redness or swelling of the treatment area which quickly resolve. Burns and ulcers are reported in the literature but extremely rare and have never been seen at Ponosh Vascular.  Whilst we have amazing results, complete resolution of your spider veins or skin issues can’t be guaranteed. Mr Ponosh will provide a full and open consent procedure with additional information regarding the outcomes and risks of the procedure.

Who will be doing my procedure?

While Mr Ponosh may undertake your laser treatment, it also may be undertaken by his highly trained and fully accredited medical and nursing staff.
